Jets fans and True North Foundation raise $132,000 to support Red Cross Donations

The Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation (WJTNF) announced today it has raised just over $132,000 to support people affected by the forest fires in northern Alberta. Last Friday, WJTNF donated $100,000 to the Canadian Red Cross, which is providing basic supplies, accommodations and registration services for evacuees. In addition to the donation, WJTNF encouraged Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose fans to also donate.

In just under a week, fans have responded generously ($32,000) to the encouragement to donate. “Our fans can take pride knowing their donations collected by our Foundation will provide food, shelter and support services to evacuees,” says Dwayne Green, executive director of the Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation.

To date, close to 45,000 households representing 90,000 people have registered with Red Cross as a result of the forest fires in northern Alberta (1). This unprecedented disaster is the largest fire-related evacuation in Alberta history.

The Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation is accepting additional donations until Sunday, May 15, 2016. A charitable tax receipt for the full amount of any donation will be issued by WJTNF.
