The Winnipeg Jets Hockey Academy (WJHA) awarded True North Youth Foundation (TNYF) scholarships to nine deserving students this school year, many who have been in the program since as early as Grade 4. Alyssa Beardy-Traverse and Demetrius Bell are two of the 2026 scholarship recipients who will both be putting their $20,000 scholarships toward post-secondary education in the 2026-27 school year, with Alyssa studying pediatrics at the University of Manitoba and Demetri physical education at The University of Winnipeg.

Created to improve attendance and graduation rates in underserved schools in Winnipeg, the WJHA provides extensive support for students during their time in the program, including tutoring, mentorship, volunteer opportunities, and support with resume development and job hunting. Awarded annually to graduating WJHA students, WJHA scholarships recognize students’ hard work and help them achieve their academic dreams after high school. As Demetri and Alyssa take this next step, they’ll be backed by the support of WJHA coaches, mentors, and friends they made along the way, with these scholarships marking an important milestone and proud moment for all who’ve supported these students over the years.
