As an extension of the programming offered during the academic year, more than 400 Winnipeg Jets Hockey Academy (WJHA) students were able to enjoy the summer camp experience during three weeks in July.

Students spent half the day keeping up with their hockey training at Bell MTS Iceplex and then enjoyed the many outdoor activities of camp such as rock-climbing, swimming, mountain biking and exploring all that Camp Manitou has to offer. In addition to on-ice time at the Iceplex, students enjoyed yoga, dry land training and floorball. Campers also participated in classroom activities to develop good habits around nutrition, hygiene, and living a healthy lifestyle.

On the first day of WJHA Summer Camp, the student athletes received an Under Armour Backpack loaded with camp essentials. These items included sunscreen, bug spray and a towel, t-shirt, hat and water bottle. Students also received a toothbrush, shampoo and deodorant after a classroom session focused on proper sleep and hygiene. Each jam-packed week was celebrated by recognizing students efforts throughout the week with Leadership, Performance, Team Work, Hardest Worker and the Coaches’ Awards.

WJHA Summer Camp is a unique opportunity as it allows WJHA students to experience a wide scope of activities and gives them a chance to reconnect with their classmates over the summer months. Reuniting with many of the coaches and leaders from the school year also provides a level of familiarity and consistency for participants.

This summer was a great success and we look forward to seeing all the campers back in the WJHA this fall!
