Since mid-March, Winnipeg Jets Hockey Academy (WJHA) students from schools across Winnipeg have been battling it out at this season’s Inter School Games. What began years ago as a single WJHA Celebration Day between six schools has now grown into a multi-month series, with roughly 375 participants from 11 elementary and middle schools around Winnipeg.

The Inter School Games allow WJHA students to get a taste of friendly competition and provide a goal for players to work toward throughout their season. This extra incentive assists the work the WJHA already does to boost class attendance rates and overall student engagement.

“It really has created a great sense of community around the program, where the teachers, the parents, the kids, are all pulling in the same direction,” said Murray Cobb, Director of the Winnipeg Jets Hockey Academy.

The final Inter School Game will take place on April 30 at hockey for all centre. Along with upcoming Celebration Days held for WJHA schools at Camp Manitou, it will mark the end of the WJHA’s younger years day programming for the 2025-26 school year.
