Laughter and excitement return to Camp Manitou
June 29, 2020 11:02 amOver the last two weeks of June, Camp Manitou looked and sounded drastically different than it did earlier this spring. Camp was once again filled with excitement, laughter and joy as 150 Winnipeg Jets Hockey Academy (WJHA) student athletes were the first to be welcomed back to the grounds after programming was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With extra hygiene, safety measures and physical distancing in place, kids were able to exercise their mind and bodies and enjoy the diverse activities of camp while also reuniting with missed friends and classmates.
The students were from across all participating WJHA elementary schools and while the majority of them were excited to return for their annual week of adventure, several Grade 3 and 4 students who were new to the program, experienced Camp Manitou for the very first time.
“It has been an incredible week for our two sons. The excitement, joy, and laughter they have going to camp in the mornings and the stories of what they accomplished at camp and activities they have taken part in is priceless,” said one WJHA parent. “From our youngest son catching his first bass fishing, to our oldest son making it to the top of the rock wall, these are memories that are engraved in their minds forever. It is a true blessing for our boys to have this opportunity at Camp Manitou.”
With kids missing out on socialization during the past three months, the ability to participate in a week of camp as part of their WJHA experience this summer was especially meaningful.
“We thank you so much to everyone involved in making this week happen. You have given our children a normal part of summer back, which is incredibly difficult during this pandemic. You have brought smiles, joy and excitement to their faces and in their hearts. We are, once again, truly grateful for all your efforts.”
