WJTNF donates $100,000 to support Red Cross in northern Alberta

The Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation (WJTNF) donated $100,000 to the Canadian Red Cross today to support people affected by the forest fires in northern Alberta. To date, as many as 80,000 people in Fort McMurray and surrounding communities have been forced from their homes.

In a statement issued by WJTNF, chairman Mark Chipman said, “We are encouraging fans of the Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose to join us by also making a donation. Funds collected through the Foundation for this fundraising effort will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross.” A charitable tax receipt for the full amount of any donation will be issued by WJTNF.

The Red Cross is now active in nearby communities surrounding Fort McMurray, providing basic supplies, accommodations and registration services for evacuees. Following the news of WJTNF’s donation, Conrad Sauvé, president and CEO, Canadian Red Cross said, “The Canadian Red Cross is on the ground in Alberta, responding to the immediate needs of families and communities, and the generous donation from the Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation goes a long way in our relief efforts.”
